Carl Stokes enthusiastically embraced politics and public service. In this 1960 photograph, Carl is pictured behind a Kennedy-Johnson Presidential campaign workers’ table. In 1962, Carl became the first African-American Democrat elected from Cuyahoga County to serve as a Representative in the Ohio General Assembly.
